our song

soon after we got engaged, i took summer to see jon schmidt in concert. jon schmidt is a spectacular pianist. he is an skilled songwriter. and he puts on a sensational show. but he isn't known for his singing. the vocals on this song are provided by somebody else. just fyi.

he is best known for "waterfall" and "all of me". i like his music because it makes me feel indescribably happy. summer says it helps her feel spiritually uplifted. perhaps we're talking about the same thing, just in different terms.

i had asked summer to marry me a few days before the show, and (if i interpreted her head-nod correctly) she had accepted. but we had a dilemma: we didn't have a "song" of our own. there were lots available. but it had to be perfect, you know.

then jon introduced this new song. he talked about how much he loved his wife and what she meant to him. of course, it was part of the show, but we knew he meant it. then he played this song.

click here to listen to a sample, or download it for $1.29.

before it was over, i knew it was going to be our song. and afterwards, summer said she felt the same way. not only does it describe, unerringly, the love we have for each other, and the relationship we share as an LDS couple, but the first time we heard it was together, live at the concert, and newly engaged.

it couldn't get more corny if this was a chick flick.
